Title: Downpour (for such as we)
Pairing: Merlin/Morgana (mentions of Arthur/Gwen)
Word count: 3,800
Summary: ‘You came,’ she says, and he has nothing with which to reply; they both know it could never have happened any other way.
A/N: Written for otempora42
's prompt 'good!Merlin/evil!Morgana'
from the drabble meme (yes, yes I do realise that was all the way back in April; I'm working on them, er, slowly? In a slightly-longer-than-drabbles kind of way? *cough*). Apparently I can no longer write a scene that is shorter than 3,000 words. This perplexes me. Hopefully this came out okay anyway, despite my verbose tendencies.( Eighteen years to the day )
I am back from Barcelona! Impromptu long weekend trips abroad = SO MUCH WIN I CANNOT EVEN EXPRESS. And what do I find when I get back in town? Goooorgeous weather. Feels like I never left Spain. :D
Basically my friend and I did exactly nothing for three and a half days except loll around on various beaches, crash a pool party at a friend of a friend's place and eat lots of good food (and ridiculous, probably unhealthy amounts of steak, but oh, was it goooood). In payment for the awesome time, though, I did lose my purse somewhere along the line between the plane and getting our baggage at Birmingham airport on the return trip, which was a bitch (and I seriously have no idea how I managed it) but I've cancelled all my cards and there wasn't anything important in there, and I only had about five pounds in change in it anyway, so it's all good.
Current plans for the week: finally, finally go to see Star Trek on Thursday (being as I am one of the last people in the whole of the internets to see it); on Friday get tickets to go see Muse in Birmingham in November - I've never seen them live before so I'm pretty excited; WRITE MOAR FIC.
Currently I am
hideously burnt attractively bronzed, relaxed and utterly disinclined to do any of the work that I need to catch up on, so, dear flisties, how have you been? ♥
Okay, a quick appeal: Celtic mythology/legends! I'm hoping to bring in a clash of Greek and Celtic mythology for that Labours of Heracles Merlin-style fic I was talking about a while back, but I know next to nothing about the Celtic side of things and my Google-fu fails me. Since I'm not exactly enthused about the idea of trying to construct the mythology of an entire culture based solely on a few dodgy wikipedia articles, I'd be incredibly grateful if someone could point me in the direction of some good sources on Celtic religion ♥
I was really hoping to have some fic ready to post tonight (it's been a while, and it makes me twitchy) but that doesn't look like it's going to be happening, so, instead, tah-dah:
THE ANONYMOUS WRITING FEEDBACK MEME
Because concrit is love and dearly appreciated. (I am at this point not so much jumping on the bandwagon as wheezing along in its dust ;p)
H'okay, I should really not be posting now, seeing as I am nominally in the middle of my Greek prose composition that I really, really need to finish by tomorrow if I intend to meet all my deadlines but I'm also on a massive sugar high and thus my judgment is critically impaired (as in to the point where jokes like 'swine flu - hey does that mean the pigs flew
?' become hysterically funny). So yes, microwave brownie-in-a-mug with syrup + endorphins from the evening run = THE BEST THING EVER (and yes, I do realise that running + syrup brownies of death is possibly defeating the object, hence why the twice-weekly run is now becoming a thrice-weekly run starting tomorrow morning).
Went to the cinema and saw 'The State of Play' last night.Helen Mirren has the most AMAZING 'what is this fuckery' expression I have EVER had the pleasure of seeing; I want it iconed so very, very badly. The rest of the film was alright, bar some epic plothole fail (though nothing that I really noticed until thinking about it afterwards). It's not a brilliant film but it's decent enough. The most important thing I took away from it - film trailers, namely 'Public Enemies': JOHNNY DEPP AND CHRISTIAN BALE FACE-OFF, THERE IS NO PART OF THAT THAT IS NOT AWESOME. OR HOT. I am going to see that film if it's the last thing I do. And Star Trek. And the new Terminator film that's coming out, because again, Christian Bale. Not that I'm shallow or anything...
Also I should probably let you guys know that I'm basically going to be on a semi-hiatus for the next 6 weeks, because this term has a killer workload and for the moment it's taking literally all my time just to keep up with deadlines and strive vainly for the semblance of a life (and, for the most part, fail). Thus fandom participation will be sporadic for a while, and also I FAIL AT ANSWERING COMMENTS, SORRY! I DO LOVE AND ADORE YOU ALL THOUGH.
That said I have still managed to knock up the tentative beginnings of a prologue for the epic mythology fic
, in which Zeus et al have to relocate from Olympus to Ben Nevis (oh, I amuse myself). And there's 1,500 words of semi-porny Merlin/Morgana knocking round on my hard drive somewhere that I'd hoped to have finished by now before uni ate my life. And M/A hooker AU fic. And all those other fics. Damn. I need to start finishing things. But I have no tiiiiiime. *whines like a whiny thing*
Yeah, this is likely the closest you will ever see me to drunk-or-otherwise-under-the-influence!p
osting; you have no idea how many typos I had to correct. I will so regret this later. Sugar, how I love thee.
- My early morning Catullus lecture was officially made of burning win. It basically turned out to be all about fellatio and gay sex in Catullus with an added helping of possible sparrow euphemisms ('passer', Latin for 'sparrow' is theorised to have also been a slang term for penis). Someone actually wrote an academic article entitled 'In Defence of Catullus' Dirty Sparrow'. This knowledge completes me.
- Classics is clearly the porn degree.
- Keeping up the twice-weekly running routine. I feel healthy; disturbing yet awesome.
- Booking flights for summer travel with xaritomene
. My summer, it will be awesome ♥
- ( Got hit by a random Merlin fic idea; Greek mythology involved )
Aaaand that concludes the happiness meme! From here on out it's all whining and depression all the time ;p
Brief PSA: I'm appallingly behind on comments and f-listy things at the moment, so if I haven't replied to you I'm not ignoring you or anything, I'm just a bit swamped right now. I think I'll probably have a chance to catch up tomorrow though (yay, fandom stuff!).
- Attempted valiantly to make golden syrup dumplings today with J (thank you Microwave Association UK
and your microwave recipes page) and failed miserably. Fortunately the dumplings (well, they came out more as a sort of... biscuity thing, but let's not nitpick) were still edible. Therefore: sugar high and uncontrollable giggle fits with fridge_monkey
. Good times. Unfortunately this all means that my sink is full of dirty plates left to soak in the hopes that when I wake up they will no longer be crusted with burnt syrup that may as well be welded on for all the good a knife will do in trying to pry it off. Fun times, though ;D
- Got all my work handed in in time for my deadlines today \o/
- Marathoned a few episodes of Arrested Development after the awesomely failtastic dumpling dinner. Gob is my favourite so far, and I'm definitely developing a taste for the show; it's all kinds of ridiculous awesome and everyone in it is stark raving mad in the best possible way.
A couple of things that made my day today:
- Went for an evening run for the first time in a long time, which gave me a nice feeling of well-being (and yay, endorphins!)
- Had an impromptu foam-fight over the washing-up after dinner, because you know, I'm not in any way, shape or form a sensible functioning adult ;p
Other than that I'm just feeling really tired and swamped with work, and there are about 30 tabs open in my browser with fic and posts that I don't have time to read, so, short post is short. Now, sleep, that would be a good idea...
Wahey, my first fic post to this journal, and naturally it's an AU with an unusual pairing, just to be contrary.
Title: Debtors and Dead Men
Word count: 921
Warnings: Modern AU
Summary: The police will search every building and never find the ones responsible – the two ghosts slipping away into the growing light and a revolution rising with the sun.
A/N: For fortassetu
. Erm, not quite the drabble I'd intended. Or the idea I'd intended actually, but what can I say, I like to see some hot girls kicking ass and taking names.( Dawn's gunmetal glint )
tagged me for the happiness meme, so here we are:
1. Post about something that made you happy today, even if it's just a small thing.
2. Do this every day for eight days.
3. Tag eight of your friends to do the same.
Things wot are making me happy today:
~ Going out for dinner later for a friend's birthday, so I can look forward to good food! Food that isn't microwaved rice! Restaurant food!
~ Planning to watch the BAFTAs on BBC iplayer in order to belatedly stalk Richard Armitage, for he is sexy.
~ No more deadlines until Saturday after handing in all of my work today and yesterday! Yay for strangely skewed timetables \o/
~ The aforementioned lack of deadlines means time to actually get some creative writing done ♥
And on that note, have another meme: The first TEN people to comment in this post get to request a drabble of any pairing/character of their choosing from me.
In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level.
Feel free to reply to the drabble one here or at LJ; I probably won't get many requests over here, but if the slots do fill up I can handle twenty drabbles ;D
I'm not tagging for either meme, so snag them or not as you desire. Also, shuralove
- I haven't forgotten about your fic, and now I should have some time around to think of something properly ♥
I really wish that the university Classics faculty would actually learn to communicate with each other and stop scheduling core lectures that clash. As it stands a few of us are going to have to draw up some kind of complicated table to make sure that there's at least one of us in every lecture to take notes and get handouts. Annoying.
Anyway, I'm done with my lovely welcome-back-to-a-new-term exams, which were rather failtastic to say the least. I'm not at all looking forward to getting those results back, but I've had enough time to dull the pain with judicial application of friends, pizza and The Princess Bride (♥!).
You know, I'd somehow managed to forget how ridiculously fun that film is (I need to get hold of the book). Inigo! Vizzini! The Rodents Of Unsusal Size! Humperdinck in all his campy glory, and oh how fantastically campy he is, it's a wonder Buttercup was ever taken in by that marriage business; she really isn't the brightest of young women. Ah, the last time I watched that film I was too young to get the 'never get involved in a land war in Asia' line but, oh, Vizzini, how my love for you increases. I even love the painfully obvious painted backdrops and the really cheesy music. That film just is my childhood.
Also, randomly: my new ambition in life is to buy all the soundtracks to Battlestar Galactica. Bear McCreary, you, sir, are a god.
Today has been a day alternately of awesome and of fail. I went out clothes shopping for the first time in a long time and managed to find the two most gorgeous dresses known to man. This was awesome. My mum also owed me a belated nineteenth birthday present, so she bought them for me. This was even more awesome, and I spent an inordinate amount of time prancing gleefully around in changing rooms. One of the dresses has this lovely close-fitting corset-ish bodice-y top (marvel at my descriptive prowess) that does amazing, godly things to my figure. I ♥ it so much. Also, somehow I now seem to be able to fit into a (UK) size 10. How this happened I do not know, but I am not complaining.
So that was all of the good, and then I came home to find to my surprise and delight that I had just been set Latin unseen translation homework, due in for 6.00 on Sunday. I have exams on Thursday and all of Friday. Term does not even start until Monday. I do not approve of this fuckery. Oh, sweet holiday, farewell.
Anyway, how much do I love that DW lets me have up to 200 icons? And that I can upload 43 of them at one time? Very, very much. I did try to tell my brain that no, really, I do not need 15 different icons for any single character, no matter how well Arthur lends himself to suggestive captions; my brain politely disagreed. So now I have 135 icons. They are shiny. I think I have an unhealthy addiction.
I think I'm going to try importing my LJ over soon; I'll probably keep it private and then figure out how many of my old entries I want hanging round on DW (and how many I can read without cringing at my adolescent wangst) at some later date when I'm feeling less lazy. Out of curiosity, how is everyone else planning on handling this? Are people leaning more towards blank slates or are you thinking more along the lines of effectively duplicate journals? Decisions, decisions.
....and now I realise a new journal means that I have to devise a witty tagging system. Curses.
EDIT: This cross-editing thing is so amazing! It's like ~magic~. *easily entertained by shiny new features* It makes me want to sit around playing games of now-you-see-it, now-you-don't whilst not even logged in to LJ, laughing maniacally over my keyboard. That could just be me, though.
Well, this is fun ♥
I am indeed enjoying poking around over here and I have to say, I like what I see. I'm not sure yet how much of my LJ I'll bring over, aside from the fics, or how, exactly, I'm going to handle things. I see much crossposting in my future. Mostly I'm still in the 'OMG LOOK AT ALL THE SHINY THINGS, WHAT DO I DO FIRST, WHAT COMMS SHALL I JOIN, I SUDDENLY HAVE THE ATTENTION SPAN OF A DERANGED GNAT *FLAIL*' stage of the thought process; coherency and some sort of a plan, with any luck, shall follow later ;p
The place to start, I think, is on a mission to find moar people. Everything feels really empty around here since it's all still in the middle of getting set up and there's not much action on the comms. If you happen to stumble across this post from wherever and we have some common interests, go right ahead and add me. I feel sad and alone in this foreign land. *soulful eyes*
So I was kind of shocked to discover that some of my fics were nominated for the MAFAs, including a couple for best PWP, and my reaction (as usual) was to think 'hey, this calls for MOAR PORN!' Looking at my competition I don't have a hope in hell of taking any victories, but I wasn't even expecting to get near the nominations list this time around so as far as I'm concerned that counts as an excellent excuse (as though I ever really need one ;p) for belated celebratory porn!

Title: Backwards Lies the Precipice
Word count: 2,954
Warnings: Angsty PWP
Spoilers: Through all of season 1
Summary: They lay out their bedrolls as evening drags into full night, tired from days of riding and fighting and loss.
A/N: Written for kelene
and the pay it forward meme. She prompted me with: 'green, merlin, up against the wall'. Alas it turned out angstier than I'd planned; I blame the 'green' part (don't question the logic, my mind works in strange ways).( time to pay it forward )
The weather's gorgeous today and I'm in a mood to write, so I'm putting out a request: give me prompts and I shall write you drabbles! Any pairing, porn or not porn, gen, whatever you want, just give me some pretty prompts :D
